What This Is
What This Is
Pub Theology is an effort to create space for conversations that have become harder to find: honest, curious, thoughtful conversations about faith, doubt, meaning, identity, culture, politics, deconstruction, and the world we share.
We’re tired of echo chambers, performative politics, and arguments that generate more heat than light. We want to create a space where people can actually hear one another well.
What This Is Not
This is not a church service, a Bible study, a debate club, a political organizing meeting, a sneaky attempt to recruit you into anything, nor a space where everyone is expected to believe the same things
This is not a space for those who want to beat each other into submission with their beliefs or argue in bad faith.
Who This is For
This gathering is for people from all kinds of backgrounds and perspectives: people with faith, people without faith, people who still feel connected to religion, people who feel hurt or disillusioned by it, people who are deconstructing, people who are simply curious, and people who want to better understand their neighbors.
The Kind of Space We Want to Create
Those of us who have had conversations about starting this in our area are all Christians. We understand that being the South, Christianity is kind of the water we're swimming in. And we're pretty interested in what is happening in the Christian world right now.
That said, we're not interested in creating a space for Christians alone. We hope the space to be somewhat like what is described below - and we hope that as we shape ourselves, we'll develop some kind shared language around what we want to accomplish.
